August 6, 2012 Update
Your Monday Morning Update:
I don’t pretend to be a spring chicken, but perhaps you too, remember the old Faberge commercial where the spunky blond held up her sleek bottle of shampoo, smiled her toothy grin and told us how luxurious her hair felt. She then said “I told two friends, and they told two friends, and so on and so on and so on.” Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about great hair, but wouldn’t it be impressive if we could say the same thing about something really important?
Try this on for size:
Handily display your “I voted” sticker and say, “I told two friends, and they told two friends, and so on and so on and so on”. Now wouldn’t THAT be extraordinary!
Tomorrow, August 7th is the last day to vote in the primary election. Don’t be one of those folks that use excuses.
- “I don’t have time” – MAKE TIME!
- “My vote doesn’t make a difference” – IT ABSOLUTELY DOES! ESPECIALLY THIS YEAR!
- “I haven’t done my due diligence and don’t know how to vote” – LOOK AT CANDIDATE WEBSITES OR CHECK THEIR BIOS AT www.jocoelection.com. BETTER YET – ASK THEM!
I know that many folks will be up all night watching the election results pour in. I know I will!
The KanCare Education Tour that was held last week at the Tomahawk Ridge Community Center, was indeed thought-provoking. The afternoon session was packed with concerned providers while the evening session was crowded with concerned families. If you were unable to attend, a meeting overview will be posted on the Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services (KDADS) website atwww.kdads.ks.gov. You may want to check that website regularly for updated information or dates of future meetings.
During the evening meeting, a gentleman asked why the developmental disability waiver was going to be phased in later. KDADS Secretary, Shawn Sullivan, answered “Frankly, they did a good job in their advocacy.” Enough said!
The waiver which will allow KanCare to be implemented as written still hasn’t yet been submitted to the Feds but we are told that will happen very soon. Remember that “submitted” doesn’t mean “approved!”
Again, I’m a broken record repeating the importance of your vote. Do it, then tell two friends, who in turn will tell two friends, and so on and so on and so on. If everyone does that, we’ll have an impressive general election (as well as luxurious hair)!
