Special Pops

Adapted and integrated leisure activities designed for individuals with disabilities. Participants are encouraged to consider any programs offered in this guide. Call Nan Kanter at 913.685.6015 to sign up for Special Pops emails or to volunteer. Pre-registration required for all events and activities.

Lunch & a Movie

Bring a friend or come alone and enjoy lunch, a fun movie, and conversation. Bring money for lunch and movie.

Jexercise

Perfect for everyone who likes music and fun! Learn how to fit exercise into your daily routine. Class accommodates routines for wheelchair participants.

Cooking Fun

Learn basic kitchen and safety skills necessary for independent cooking while planning and cooking a meal.  Each participant receives a cookbook along with a kitchen safety guide.

Hayride

Adapted Aquatics

Prerequisite: Water adjustment and social skill readiness. Participants are introduced to a variety of aquatic activities and exercises. Weekly classes include warm-ups, stretches, aerobic moves, stroke work, and therapeutic games.

Adapted Aquatics Open Swim

A special time reserved for fun in the pool. Play basketball, swim laps, walk and talk in the lazy river channel, or just hang out with friends. Certified lifeguards supervise.

Lights of the City

Special Pops Open Gym  NEW

Play in our gymnastics area every Sunday! Designed to develop motor skills, coordination, balance, flexibility, self-confidence, and strength. A gymnastics coach supervises.

The Blue Valley Blue Streaks, our local Special Olympics team, participate in local, regional, and state events throughout the year. Programs offered for athletes eight years old and up. Special Olympics Bowl-A-Thon & Silent Auction

Don’t miss our 24th Annual Bowl-A-Thon fundraiser benefitting the Blue Valley Blue Streaks Special Olympics team. Bowl, win prizes, and bid on great deals in the silent auction. Proceeds help buy team uniforms, equipment, and awards. Open to the entire community. Minimum of $25 in pledges required for each bowler. Offered in partnership with AMF College Lanes.

Special Olympics Bowling

Bring a bowling ball or use one of ours and try to bowl a strike! Volunteers help improve with technique. Pre-registration required by 8/18. Payment, payable to Blue Valley Special Olympics, due at first session. Offered in partnership with AMF College Lanes.
